How to Cut Wood Worktops for Kitchens to Size: A Nutshell Guide

One of the most beneficial things about purchasing wood worktops for kitchens is the ease with which you can work with these products (particularly in comparison to granite and marble worktops). Timber also does not need the additional finishing that a laminate worktop requires.

Whether you want your worktop to fit into an unusual kitchen layout or have an imaginative design for your kitchen’s breakfast bar, our wide range of worktops can be cut to size by anyone who considers themselves handy with a power tool.

Before you launch into cutting your worktops, make sure you have the following extras to hand:

A pair of protective goggles
Dust mask
Ear defenders
A pencil (to mark cutting lines on the worktop)

 Circular saw
If you would like to simply reduce the length of your wooden worktop, then a circular saw is the easiest way to create straight cuts.
To cut wooden worktops, you should use a portable circular saw with at least a 140mm cutting disc, which will cost approximately £100.

 Electric router
To create more detailed cuts, apply edge profiles, make irregular cut-outs, or cut features such as hotrod or drainage grooves into your worktop, we recommend using an electric router.
We suggest using a good quality router with at least a 900W motor to adequately cut through the hardwood timber. This should cost approximately £150.
For efficient cutting of your worktops, we sell a perfect accompanying tungsten carbide router cutter for only £10.

 Fabrication
If you aren’t confident in home DIY, or would like your worktops to have some more accurate bespoke adjustments, our fabrication team can create the perfect worktop for your kitchen so that it fits like a glove.
Each worktop is cut using our precision CNC machine, before being carefully sanded and oiled by our team.

A wide range of bespoke alterations can be created, with simple cuts starting at just £15. Find out more on our bespoke cutting service page.
